Iran finishes vice-champion in Ivan Yariguin cup

TEHRAN, Jan. 30 (MNA) – Iran’s freestyle wrestling team bagged four medals to land second overall at Ivan Yariguin international tournament in Russia.

The sportive event kicked off on January 27 in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk and ran through January 29 with the Iranian team securing one silver and three bronze medals to stand on the second podium.

Accordingly, Mohammad Javad Ebrahimi at 86kg weight category brought home Iran’s only silver medal while Mohammad Mahdi Yeganeh (65kg), Hossein Ramezanian (97kg) and Jaber Sadeghzadeh (125kg) added three bronze trophies to the country’s tally of medals.

Overall, the Iranian outfit landed second behind host Russia who won the title while Mongolia stood in the third place.

Iman Sadeghi and Reza Atri, who were competing in 61 and 58kg weight divisions respectively, conceded defeats against rivals and were eliminated from the tournament without bagging medals.

Grand Prix Ivan Yariguin Senior IT (FS & FW) was organized by the Wrestling Federation of Russia and the Ivan Yariguin Charity Foundation.

The Iranian squad was led by Seyed Mostafa Miremadian and Aziz Vagozari as coaches as well as Gholamreza Nourizadeh as caretaker.
